Students are exposed to all types of farming and ranching systems, guest farmers speak to the class, and field trips are taken to local farms. Classroom and field-based instruction will be 50% in English, 50% in Spanish with simultaneous translation provided to help English speakers improve their Spanish and vice versa. This course is a prerequisite for the Agricultural Entrepreneurship and Business Planning course that will be offered in January 2010. Those who complete both courses will be eligible to participate in a new Farm Business Incubator that will provide affordable access to land, farm infrastructure, and technical assistance and help farmers transition to long-term land tenure and/or ownership.
