Raspberries

  • There are more than 200 species of raspberries in the world
  • Raspberries are a wonderful source of vitamin C, containg 40 percent of a person's daily needs.

  • The raspberry is composed of many connecting drupelets (individual sections of fruit, each with its own seed) surrounding a central core.
  • There are red raspberries, black raspberries and yellow raspberries. 
  • Whatcom County grows more red raspberries per capita than anywhere else in the world!
  • Whatcom County has over 120 growers tilling over 6,000 acres of red raspberries
  • Most raspberries in Whatcom County are picked by mechanical picker, a machine that gently shakes the ripe berries off the bush with gentle fingers
  • The Korvan Picker was developed and is manufactured in Lynden, Washington
