New Photo Op at Farming For Life! Exhibit
Whatcom Farm Friends extends our gratitude and excitement to Darryl Ehlers. Darryl generously commissioned chainsaw artist, Steve Orne of Deming, to create a whimsical sculpture of a dairy cow holding a glass of milk as a gift to the Farming For Life! Exhibit.
We have yet to name our new friend, but you can bet that sitting on her lap for a photo will be one of the favorite activities at the exhibit next week.

Meet Your Candidates
Ballots will be in the mail in the near future for the primary in an "odd number" year election which is primarily local, county, and city races. Farm Friends has made it a habit to bring candidates to our office for an hour to meet local farmers and community members and talk about their agriculture needs in upcoming years. It is also a fine opportunity for the candidates to update farmers on what is happening in local government and what they hope to accomplish.
Thur August 13 4 pm - Doug Smith (Port) 5 pm - Kathy Kershner (Council District #1)
We look forward to seeing you at the Farm Friends office! Visit us at 1796 Front Street, Lynden, WA 98264. 360-354-1337.

Harvesting Agriculture's Aesthetics The Jury is In!
Many thanks to our jurors: Cal Bratt, editor of the Lynden Tribune, and Randy and Cathy Fleming of Fleming Photography Studio in Lynden. Cal, Randy, and Cathy gave many hours of their time this past week studying the nearly 150 fantastic entries by local professional and amateur photographers to the new juried photo exhibit that will debut at the fair next week.
You'll have to visit the exhibit, which will be part of the larger Farming For Life! exhibit, to learn who the winners are, but we can tell you that you'll find the photographs arranged in the following categories:
Harvest Bounty Whatcom's Diversity Nostalgia / Historical The Family Life Scenic Flavor Flora Fauna Unique Machinery in Action Rural Farm Life Taken by Kids
When you visit us at the Mount Baker Rotary Building you'll also have a chance to weigh in on your favorite shot as well. When you vote on your favorite photo, your name will be entered in a drawing to win a copy of the book Food for the Body, Mind, and Soul. . .Whatcom County Agriculture. Read more about the book at our website.
You can also read more about the photo exhibit at our website.

Farm Friends Programs Farming for Life! Exhibit Needs Volunteers The volunteer schedule is filling up, but we're still looking for community members and producer farmers to volunteer with us at the Farming for Life Exhibit next week.
We are asking community volunteers to commit four hours at the exhibit. By way of thanks, you'll receive a full day pass into the fair for any part of that day before or after your shift. Duties will include meeting the general public as they enter, giving direction through the exhibit, providing coloring books to the kids, helping to keep exhibitor tables stocked with supplies and having fun.
